We Cherish The Memories of You©
By Allen E Kroger III
I lost someone I love today
To express my loss, there is no way
The only thing that I can do
Is to always cherish the memories of you
So long ago, on our first day
I heard your voice and turned your way
Those faithful words I longed to here
“I’m your mom, so have no fear
I’ll keep you warm and safe and sound
And I will always be around
So lay your head upon my chest
And know that I will do my best
I’ll teach you how to walk and talk
And push your stroller around the block
Then take you to the park to play
And hug and squeeze you everyday
And if you fall and skin your knee
At your side is where I’ll be
For no one can love you like I do
Cause their’s some of me inside of you
I’ll give you baths and wash your toes
And cook and clean and fold your clothes
I’ll always love and care for you
Because that is what us Mommies do
I’ll teach you all the golden rules
Then get you dressed and off to school
And we’ll walk together hand in hand
You’ll grow so smart, won’t that be grand
And when your sick, I’ll nurse you well
So you can go and give them hell
And I will be so proud of you
I’ll revel in your triumphs too
Then you’ll grow up and take a spouse
And buy yourselves and fancy house
I will come and visit you
And marvel in the things you do
Then soon you’ll have kids of your own
And I’ll have a joy I’ve never known
I’ll get to be a grandma too
And in their faces, I’ll see you
To think that all of this will pass
I hope it doesn’t go too fast
But I will love you every day
And help you out in every way
Cause I’m you Mom, this much is true
And that is what us Mommies do
Our new adventure has begun
So trust in me my precious one”
It seems like only yesterday
I heard my loving mother say
Those words to me with love and pride
They made me feel so good inside
And since then, we’ve truly had a ball
Thru birthdays and holidays, we’ve loved them all
The drives to the beach and swims in the pool
And food so good, it would make you drool
From the chili cook offs and the barbecues
To the summers in Spokane and Twin Lakes too
The Family reunions full of laughter and fun
We’ve had some pretty great times, when all is said and done
And keep her promises, she kept them all
She’s helped me grow up strong and tall
And I am who I am today
Because my Mom loved me in every way
But through the years, I’ve watched her age
and battles she has had to wage
for kidney, heart and now her lung
I wish from this suffering, she could be sprung
I sit with her and hold her hand
And wonder why this is God’s plan
To make her suffer in this way
I can’t stand to watch it one more day
My mom once strong, is fading fast
I’m not sure how long she will last
I hold her close and squeeze her tight
And hope and pray with all my might
And as I feel her slowly slip away
I lean in close and start to say
“You’ve done your job, it’s time to rest
We thank you for always giving us your best
But even thou you leave us here
And many will be shedding tears
You lived and loved and had such fun
And shared your joy with everyone
So off to heaven where you’ll see
Your long lost friends and family
Thou we’ll grieve and miss you too
We’ll always cherish the memories of you!”
We love and miss you Mom!
In loving memory of Dolores Withers
